This month we hear from Aslihan Selimbeyoglu, Senior Research Scientist at COMPASS
I am a part of the COMPASS team because … I love our commitment to compassion and boldness. We need to challenge the failed approaches in mental health, by embracing patient-centred holistic therapies and rigorous science. As a neuroscientist, I believe that COMPASS is spot on in its understanding of neurodiversity and neurodivergence
My main role at COMPASS is to … lead our systems and translational neuroscience team to design and implement preclinical science projects that will successfully translate to clinical development
An interesting fact about COMPASS is … that it is truly forward-looking in its ways of working. You can work from anywhere (including our super cool Soho office), anytime, and you can take time off for mental wellbeing. We mean it!
I find peace of mind … in Niksar, my hometown in Turkey. You can see me in the picture above strolling around our family walnut farm overlooking the plains of Kelkit river
My favourite activity is … awe-spotting. Awe is all around us and it makes all the difference for my happiness. I love cloud-watching, sharing my son’s curiosity, noticing sun rays through the forest canopy, smelling rain-soaked earth …
What I practise for my mental wellbeing … don’t take life too seriously, smile
One place I wish everyone could visit is … Yosemite. Hike up the valley and read Catch-22 leaning on a giant tree, watching giant waterfalls
My motto is … kind and brave
