Compass’s values of compassion, trust, innovation and collaboration have been central to my internship.

Compassion
One of the favourite parts of my internship has been spending 1-2 hours each day helping to respond to the enquiries we receive through the website. We receive stories from people from all walks of life and have seen the positive impact a compassionate response can have. This has emphasised to me just how important compassion is, both in and outside the workplace.

Trust
I started my Business Development and Operations internship coming from a science background, with no previous business experience. Because of this, I assumed my internship would involve small tasks with little responsibility – I was wrong! From early on, I have been trusted with larger tasks such as forming relationships with external parties. I feel that this trust has really accelerated my learning about the business world.

Innovation
I have been empowered to innovate during my time at Compass. For example, Alice and John, senior members in my department, were very supportive when I suggested a new way to track document updates. Innovation is constantly encouraged at Compass, and our lunch and learn sessions often end with discussions about how we can apply exciting ideas to our work.

Collaboration
Collaboration comes naturally to Compass because everyone here shares a passion to create a world of mental wellbeing. My day typically starts with me and Chandanee, the other Business Development intern, talking through our workloads to see if there is anything we can do to help each other. I always feel positive leaving our monthly team meetings, where the whole company comes together to discuss our progress, and I am grateful to have been part of such a welcoming team.
