As we wrap up 2022, we spoke to our team about what they’ve learnt this year, what they’re excited about this holiday, and what they’re looking forward to in 2023.

I’ve given myself permission to buy any book that I’m even slightly interested in – it helps keep me off my phone, and I’ve learnt so many new ideas and ways of thinking through this rule. After reading, I always feel a bit calmer and more grounded too, which is a plus.

Do you have any holiday traditions that you’re looking forward to?

In Japan, the big holiday is New Year’s so I’m excited to spend it with my family. We’ll be eating some of my favourite Japanese foods – soba, tempura, mochi, sushi, and more. It’s also tradition to visit the family grave around New Year’s, and while not incredibly exciting, praying at the grave helps me reflect on my values, what I’m grateful for, and goals for the coming year.

What are you most excited for next year?

I’m excited about attending a global technologies conference in London next spring to hear from other thought leaders in technology about innovation in content. Meeting other people in the field is an important part of being at the cutting edge of technology.

I have started to focus on personal development outside of my normal work, usually in the form of a fun class or trying to learn a new skill or language. It’s been great this year – I’ve been learning Spanish and Swedish, as well as graphic design and animation.

Do you have any holiday traditions that you’re looking forward to?

I like to get involved in the Christmas spirit and dress in costume, along with my two cats, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern!

What are you most excited for next year?

I’m most excited for some new opportunities that will challenge me – those are usually the periods of my life that I enjoy the most.  I’m particularly looking forward to getting involved in our quality assurance projects, ensuring that the work we do is of highest standard. It’s satisfying to see a project completed in this way.

Running! It used to be something that I would avoid at all costs, imagining it as a monotonous sport. But this year I put on my running shoes again, and I discovered that I was actually enjoying it! I like that it allows me to stay focused on the run without thinking about anything else, like a “meditation in motion”.

Do you have any holiday traditions that you’re looking forward to?

My family always do a Christmas movie marathon to put ourselves in the holiday spirit! There’s nothing better than snuggling in my blanket with a mug of hot chocolate and my favourite snacks while watching films.

What are you most excited for next year?

For next year, I’m most excited about getting more people who are as passionate as all of us at Compass to join us. I’m also looking forward to attending my best friend’s wedding in France. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen her and I can’t wait to see her in her wedding dress!
