Happy Earth Day 2020
I’m really proud to be part of a company that is so committed to mental wellbeing – a commitment that runs through everything we do. A few of us created a Compass green team recently, to make a positive contribution to the world around us, as well as benefitting our mental and physical health.
It’s been recognised for thousands of years that spending time alongside nature can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing. For me, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this even more: being able to walk outside and appreciate the trees, plants and flowers in my neighbourhood has helped me immensely. However, not all communities have access to an abundance of nature, especially in cities and urban areas.
That’s why we have decided to support Trees for Cities, a UK charity close to our hearts and to our company vision of a world of mental wellbeing. Trees for Cities works at a national and international level to improve lives by planting trees in urban spaces. What we love about the charity is that it involves local communities in cultivating lasting change in their neighbourhoods – revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or getting people excited about growing, foraging and eating healthy food.
We have committed to planting 890 trees through Trees for Cities this year (offsetting equivalent to 333.3 tonnes CO2 emissions). They will be planted in cities around the UK this autumn and winter, and we’re looking forward to sharing photos when our trees are in their new homes…
This is one of many steps we as a green team (and company) will be taking to help make our world a better place to live in – and we’re excited to announce more steps in the next few months. We’d love to hear about similar initiatives to support the environment and mental wellbeing – if you have an idea you’d like to share, please contact us at greenteam@compasspathways.com.
